God’s Law Reveals a Great Truth
Reverend Leo H. McCrary II
Do you have a burning desire to be perfect? Can you become perfect?

Today’s devotional reading: Romans 3:9-20
Nobody is perfect. We have a desire to be perfect. In our physical health, we want to be in perfect health. When it comes to our intelligence, we want to be the smartest. Spiritually speaking, man has the desire to be righteous – truly perfect.
I believe the desire to be righteous is something that comes from our spiritual nature. What I mean by this is that mankind received the breath of life from God, who is holy and righteous. We were made in holiness and righteousness, but man chose, and still chooses, to live in disobedience of holiness and righteousness.
Though we may be sinful creatures, the desire is still there to be holy and righteous. Some even proclaim their own self-righteousness! Yet, God’s law reveals the truth that all of us have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Though we may fall short of God’s glory, God’s law points to Christ and mankind’s need for Him. You see, Christ gave His life as the righteous requirement of God’s law for us.
In Christ, we have a way to truly be holy and righteous. If you’re one who thinks that you don’t need Christ to become holy and righteous, you’re going a self-righteous path whose end is the way of death. All of us should give thanks to the law for revealing such a great truth to us because, without the law, all of us would be deemed sinners, facing eternal condemnation. But all thanks to the Lord for making a way for us to live in the holiness that we so much desire to live in.
