God Is Faithful to His Promise

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

The everlasting promise is constantly mocked, but one should not mock the Lord because He takes His promise seriously.

Today’s devotional reading: Matthew 24:36-41

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, as we are told in 2 Peter 3:9. To be slack means that one is being negligent, that is, they are being slow and sluggish. Many believe that God is sluggish to deliver His blessings, and to deliver us from our trials and tribulations.

Yet, there are reasons why it may seem like your blessings are delayed or your deliverance from tribulation. Often, we can be our own worst enemies, lacking discipline in following God’s instructions. Disobedience, not being aligned with God, can certainly create delay. Yet, we must also consider that God has His own plan and timetable – a divine will.

God does permit things to happen within His will, when we pray for that. Yet, God’s divine will is unchanging. Whether we believe the Lord is being slack or sluggish, God will move according to His plan because He is faithful to Himself.

We should always keep in mind that God will never fail us because that would require Him to fail Himself. If the Lord is being faithful to Himself, He expects for us to be faithful to Him as well. We are in a period of waiting, and during this period of wait, let us remain faithful. Let us remain faithful to the Lord and to what we have promised.
