A God Who Truly Can Empathize

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

God is both a merciful and gracious God who we should cherish for how He empathizes with us

Today’s devotional reading: John 1:14-18

It can be hard for us to find someone to confide in. There are times when we may feel it’s difficult to let others know about our struggles because everyone has their own struggle. At other times, it can be difficult confiding in someone about our missteps for fear we will be judged. It is such a heavy weight when you feel like you don’t have anyone to talk to because you think nobody cares, or you will be looked down on.

Yet, Jesus said, “Come to Me, all you who are heavy laden.” There is a throne we can, and all should, go before, which is called the throne of grace. Sitting at the right hand of God is our High Priest, our Advocate, and Mediator. We have a high priest who can truly empathize with what we deal with daily, in our struggles, our temptations, and our missteps (Heb. 4:15).

Jesus knows our troubles. The only begotten Son of God knows our troubles because He came through the womb of a woman and dwelt in this world. Scripture shows us that Jesus wasn’t a machine. No, Jesus would get sleepy and fall asleep on a boat. Jesus fought back tears at the death of a good friend. In all points, Jesus was tempted by sin just as we are.

So, when we go before the throne of grace, we find His grace and mercy. Even more, when we go before the throne of grace, He will lift us up. Though He was tempted in all points, Jesus overcame everything you and I go through. His grace has been made known to us, and we ought not be afraid nor ashamed to receive.

Go to Christ today – He loves you, He cares about you, and He will never turn you away, nor judge you.
