Give Honor and Respect to God

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

God is our Maker and the Creator of all things. We ought to give all honor and respect to God.

Today’s devotional reading: 1 Chronicles 13:5-12; 15:11-13

God is the potter sitting at the potter’s wheel. As Daniel said in praise of God, “wisdom and might are His. And He changes the times and the seasons (Dan. 2:20-21). What God has ordained ought to be respected and not mocked or taken lightly.

Yet, the name of God is mocked. Honor is not given to God for the rising and the setting of the sun. Honor isn’t given to His instructions as many, including many who profess faith, choose to live by their own instructions. The way of God has been shown to us through Christ, and we are to carefully follow His lead, loving God and our neighbors.

Righteousness belongs to God. No matter how righteous we may think our actions are, if we don’t heed God’s instructions, our works fall short of God’s glory. Paul said it best: “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him (Col. 3:17).”

When we choose to do things our way, we are saying our way is better than God’s way. Are we greater than God, the omniscient one? As Solomon said, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death (Prov. 14:12).”

Let us humble ourselves and do our very best to be careful in living obediently, giving honor to God.
