There’s An Abundance of Joy in God

God wants us to be happy now, but will we turn to Him and drink waters from His wells.

Today’s devotional reading: Isaiah 12:1-6

Mankind’s quest has always been to find happiness and joy. However, the quest to find happiness and joy often turns up empty because many of us are searching for happiness and joy in the wrong places.

We turn to one another to find happiness and joy, and find temporary pleasure; our emotions are unstable because of the often-changing tides of life. We turn to material things to find happiness and joy, and the inanimate can only do so much for our living soul. While man is overtly selfish and greedy, keeping his riches to himself so that nobody can share in them, God is different.

The Lord invites one to turn to Him and find true happiness and joy. In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus invited all who labor and are heavy laden – weary in the soul – to come to Him and find rest for their souls. The Lord is abundant in grace and mercy. As He proclaimed to Moses in his day, God is merciful, gracious, patient, and abounds in goodness and truth (Ex. 34:6). He keeps mercy for thousands and lifted burdens from the souls of many for generations upon generations upon generations.

Having heavy burdens lifted from your soul is frees it and helps it to breathe easier – God gives life to the soul. Moreover, God being everlasting and unchanging means that He is a stable source to turn to for everlasting happiness and joy. The beauty of this revelation is that God will turn nobody away from His wells of salvation. If ever there was a time for one to choose ot drink from the wells of God, I would say that now is certainly the time to do so.
