The Fiery Passion of the Christmas Spirit

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

God did not give His only begotten Son for smile and laughs, there was a great purpose.

Today’s devotional reading: Psalm 72:1-4

The Christmas story is a story of redemption. Mankind lost its way when Adam and Eve chose to disobey in the garden. That was a choice that still repeats itself as mankind continues to choose to live according its own way rather than God’s way. The result of choosing to live sinfully leaves one falling down a deep well of sin, that will destroy the soul if one isn’t saved from the fall.

There is a spiritual warfare today, and many are their soul in this battle as sin is holding them hostage. While we sing rejoicing at Christmas time, we ought to remember the Lord’s thoughts in the giviing of Christ. In Isaiah 59:15-16, we are told that God brought forth His own salvation after witnessing there was no justice nor intercessor amongst mankind. Isaiah 59:17-18 tells us that the Lord put on His garments of vengeance as He set Himself to repay His adversaries and the workers of iniquity.

There was a fiery passion for those who desired to dwell with God that drove Him to move against wickedness in such a manner. God gave His only begotten Son to bruise the head of the serpent – to confound and defeat Him. God gave His only begotten Son to save mankind from falling into eternal condemnation – destruction. God gave His only begotten Son to be the judge of sin.

We are all blessed today because of the compassion that the Lord has for us. Blessed are those who hunger, those who are poor and of a contrite spirit, because the Lord is with us and cares for us. You don’t have to be held in the chains of sin’s captivity, God has given His only begotten Son to free you. Christ has called you by name, and if you desire to be free from the grip of sin, all you have to do is answer, make haste, and go to Him.
