All Things Align for God’s Purpose

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

All things work together for good to those who love the Lord

Today’s devotional reading: Luke 2:1-7

It was promised through the prophecy of Micah that Christ would be born in Bethlehem (Mic. 5:2). Yet, Joseph and Mary dwelt in the northern region of Israel, in Nazareth of Galilee. So, something needed to happen to bring a pregnant Mary to Bethlehem to give birth to Christ.

Luke’s gospel tells us that Caesar Augustus made a decree that those living under Rome needed to be registered for taxation purposes. To be registered, a census was taken, and everyone had to return to their hometown, meaning Joseph had to return to Bethlehem. Imagine that, something so annoying as a man desiring to enrich himself, is what led Joseph and Mary to return to Bethlehem. God can and will use anything or anyone to serve His purpose, fulfilling His will and desire.

Something so unassuming that you may think little of it can serve His purpose. Trials and tribulations, something that may have caused you grief, even the actions of the wicked, God can use to fulfill His purpose for you. Consider all of those moments when you were delayed, and that delay worked out as a blessing for you.

We often have this desire for everything to be and to go perfectly for us. You could imagine that Mary was hoping everything would go perfectly in her giving birth to Christ. Don’t let the fact that not everything has or will go perfectly distract you from how blessed you are. Always remember, regardless of what you are going through, God is putting you in a position to receive a great blessing from Him.
