The Shelter and Comfort of God

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

When you are in trouble, who do you turn to? Shouldn’t we turn to the Lord?

Today’s devotional reading: Psalm 57:1-11

David knew from where His help came from. He didn’t look for his help to come from anything the world can give. No, David trained his eyes to look towards heaven because his help always came from the kingdom of God. When he was surrounded by his enemies, David sang that his heart was steadfast and he would exalt the Lord.

In the midst of your trouble, you should know where to turn for help. You shouldn’t be turning to any soothsayers, should you? When you are persecuted on every side, you should look to heaven and go to your fortress and refuge.

God is our fortress and our refuge. The fortress of God cannot be climbed over by the mightiest of the mighty. The fortress of God cannot be broken into by the strongest of the strongest. In His refuge, there is safety from an enemy whose sole desire is to destroy our souls by any means.

Why should you turn anywhere else but to God when the enemy pursues and tries to destroy you? God is Almighty, and there is nothing that can overcome Him. We would all be fools to turn any other fortress that is not God.
