God Lives Beyond Four Walls

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

God cannot be chained up and bound, yet, the Lord does desire to make a home in you.

Today’s devotional reading: Acts 7:44-50

God desires to dwell in your heart today, but is your heart prepared for Him to dwell there? This means that wherever you go, God will be with you. This means that whatever you think, God will know it. Whatever you do, God will see it.

Something that the children of Israel failed to understand is that God is not bound to a box. They had the belief that God was somehow boxed within the Ark of the Covenant. Then, when the Ark of the Covenant would rest in the tabernacle or the temple, they saw that as the dwelling place of God.

In Isaiah 29:15-16, we see that such thinking led them to believe that they could hide their thoughts and their actions from the Lord. In response to such a thought, God said to them, “Surely, you have things turned around!” God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent – He is all-powerful, all-knowing, and always present.

When the Lord says that He is with you and will never leave nor forsake you, you should understand that means He will never take time away from you. God does not go on vacation, nor does the Lord sleep. God is always with you because He dwells in your heart – you are His temple. When you’re active, He is active, and when you’re inactive, God is still watching and awake.
