Authority Over the Grave

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

You must stop giving those without power, authority over you! You are more powerful than anything you’ll ever face in life.

Today’s devotional reading: Psalm 88:1-18

Sin does not have dominion over you. The grave does not have to have authority over you. The darkness of the day may try to rob you of hope, but don’t let it! In the day of your despair, there still is one who is God over darkness, over your worst enemy, and even the grave itself.

God has promised to never leave nor forsake you. This is to say, God has promised never to give up on you. God has also promised that you will never perish. There are those who live in the bondage of sin. There are those who the grave will forever have in its grips. This is because they have rejected the hope of God; they have rejected His only begotten Son.

No matter what you’re dealing with or going through, may I encourage you to hold on to the Lord? When you are in the deepest of despair and at the lowest of depression, may I encourage you to hold on to the Lord?

Psalm 88 opens with one who is in such a terrible place in his soul singing to the God of his salvation. God is the God of salvation; the God of deliverance. The Lord will never leave you in darkness. The Lord will never leave you in the grave of sin. God will deliver you from all of your troubles. God will deliver you from sin. Christ suffered the cross and overcame the grave so that you will never have to suffer either!

Put your hands into the hand of God! When you put your hand into God’s hand, He will lift you out of the mire and set your feet on solid ground.
