Beauty in Fulfilling God’s Will

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

This life is a difficult one, but the affliction of today is light compared to the reward that awaits.

Today’s devotional reading: John 12:27-33

Fulfilling the will of God is no easy task. Anyone who may think that fulfilling God’s will is an easy assignment should consider that Christ even grieved over fulfilling His Father’s will.

On multiple occasions, Jesus’ soul was troubled at fulfilling His purpose. Jesus’ purpose in this world was not just ministering to us sinners but laying down His life to atone for our sins. How many of us would be willing to lay down our lives to atone for the sins of bitter, hateful people, whose every desire is to live wickedly?

The life of a Christian is a life that is meant to walk parallel with Christ. Because we must walk parallel with Christ to fulfill the Father’s will, we must understand that means we will be partakers of Christ’s sufferings. As Christ was despised by the world, we will also be despised by the world because we are not of it. As Christ was tempted by Satan, we will also be tempted by Satan, sin, wickedness, and evil.

In the day when His heart was troubled, Jesus cried out to the Father. If Jesus cried out to the Father when His heart was troubled, shouldn’t we do the same? When we cry out to the Lord, He will bless us so that we may glorify Him. Through all of our struggles, there comes great joy when we move to fulfill God’s will and at least one sinner turns to the Lord.
