The Doctrine that Agrees With Godliness

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

There will only be one doctrine that falls in alignment with God and it should be obvious where that doctrine comes from.

Today’s devotional reading: 1 Timothy 6:3-10

There are two doctrines present in this world: The doctrine of worldliness and the doctrine that agrees with godliness. As you go through life, if you desire to walk with the Lord, you must not be confused nor mislead.

Paul pointedly told Timothy that there is a doctrine that comes from prideful know-nothing people that creates all manner of strife and grief. It is a doctrine that focuses on profit and gain of wealth and riches. It teaches that the more you possess, the more blessed you are. Yet, this is not a doctrine to live by as all it does is grieve and wound the soul to the point that either feels empty or is shattered.

The doctrine that agrees with godliness consists of the teaching of grace, mercy, and being content with the blessings of the Lord. We know this to be true because Christ taught that we should love the Lord with our whole heart. Christ also taught that we should love our neighbors as we love ourselves.

Christ then pointed to the scribes and Pharisees of His day and said do not live as they live (Matt. 23). Those men made a mockery of faith in the Lord by being self-centered and greedy. In the works they did, they sought to be praised and glorified by men, rather than be glorified by God. Jesus said that they had their reward in the world, but eternally, there was no reward for them.

The doctrine of the world is a doctrine whose end is the way of death. You should not give the time of day to following such a doctrine – withdraw yourself from its teachings immediately. Follow the path whose end is the way of life and eternal joy.
