Remember Why God Saved
Reverend Leo H. McCrary II
Just because you have been saved, that doesn’t not make you better than anyone else, does it?

Today’s devotional reading: Deuteronomy 9:4-12
God’s children must not become so self-righteous that they forget why God saved them. There was a group of Jews who once arrogantly turned down salvation through Christ, thinking they didn’t need to be saved. Why didn’t they think they needed to be saved? Because they were Abraham’s descendants, which they believed automatically qualified them to inherit God’s kingdom. (John 8:37-44). However, to those Jews, Jesus warned that their Father was actually the devil, not God.
Arrogance. Hubris. Pride. Be warned that arrogance, hubris, and pride keep many from dwelling with the Lord. Satan rebelled against God in his arrogance. Man, both in the past and still to this day, rebels in such a manner. Let’s be clear that many of those who have been lost to such hubris are those who believe themselves to be very religious.
The scribes and Pharisees missed out on Christ because their pride blocked them. As Paul told the Corinthians, “God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty (1 Cor. 1:27).” Therefore, one must remain humble in all the ways they go.
We should always live with a mindset of remembering that God saved us to be faithful to what He promised, not because of anything that we have done. We should always remember that all of us are sinners who fall short of the glory of God, and without Him, we would not be justified of our sins. Who are we to raise ourselves above anyone? Who are we to raise ourselves above the Lord? If anyone ought to remain humble in how they live, it ought to be God’s children.
