Proverbs 1:1-7 – The Only Way You Can Grow
Reverend Leo H. McCrary II
Every day we live and breathe should be a day where we grow into being a better person.

Today’s devotional reading: Proverbs 1:1-7
Do you desire to be a better person today than you were yesterday? I often ask the Lord to help me become a better person tomorrow than I was today and yesterday. Such a prayer acknowledges the need for continued growth and improvement as a person. There is an acknowledgment within such a prayer where one recognizes their imperfection and desire to grow unto what God considers to be perfect.
To get to such a place where one seeks God’s help in growth, one must admit their need for help. Yet, many struggle with acknowledging their need for help, as many truly do believe they are already perfect. Arrogance, ego, pride, and conceitedness are incredibly dangerous not just to oneself but to everyone, and the world we live is proof of such narcissism.
To truly grow, we must humble ourselves and acknowledge things like: when we are ignorant, lack the strength to endure, and lack the motivation to push ahead. Refusal to acknowledge one’s weaknesses does not help one to become stronger. In 2 Corinthians 12:7-10, Paul spoke of the need for one to cry out to the Lord in one’s weaknesses. When we cry out in our weaknesses, the Lord responds that His grace is sufficient to strengthen us.
Every day is a day for growth and the Lord will help you to continue to improve in those areas where you are weakest. Never think yourself already perfect, for such a mindset is limiting to who you can become.
