Psalm 37:1-8 – Stand Pat and Trust God

We must truly understand what it means to wait on the Lord if we desire to endure this journey.

Today’s devotional reading: Psalm 37:1-8

Don’t let your anxiety get the best of you, especially in this season. Anxiety is what the devil often seeks to stir up in the soul of believers, as it can lead to fear, worry, and doubt. Fear, worry, and doubt can cause believers to either act irrationally or to take no action at all. Either way, a believer who acts irrationally or does not act is a believer who is not moving by faith.

We must learn how to stand pat, which is to say that we must learn how to wait on the Lord. Waiting on the Lord certainly does not mean that one should move ahead of God. What is there that awaits us in trying to move faster than God and force a blessing? There’s nothing but hardships and trouble when you try to move ahead of God and the blessing He has with Him.

At the same time, standing pat, or waiting on the Lord, doesn’t mean that you are to sit down and do nothing. As the Lord led the children of Israel through the wilderness, He leads all of us on our journey. God is always moving, and as sheep in His flock, you and I must move as He moves. Standing pat, or waiting on the Lord, means that you move as God moves – moving as God directs.

So, in a season when it seems like terrible thing after terrible thing keeps stacking up, do not fret – walk with the Lord. In a season when it seems you’re surrounded by the wicked, do not fret – walk with the Lord. In a season when it seems that the wicked have finally decided to move against you, once again I say to you, do not fret – walk with the Lord.

As David said, “Do not fret—it only causes harm.” However, when you commit your way to the Lord, and delight in His way, He shall give you the desires of your heart in due season.
