Proverbs 3:5-6 Follow God’s Direction

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

Will you choose to wait on the Lord today, or will you choose to go off in your own direction?

Today’s devotional reading: Proverbs 3:5-7

Scripture repeatedly encourages believers to wait on the Lord. Isaiah 40:31 tells us that when we wait on the Lord, He will renew our strength, and that we will mount up with wings like an eagle. Though we know that we are supposed to wait on the Lord, how many of us know what waiting on the Lord looks like?

By definition, to wait means to remain stationary in readiness or expectation. Let’s be clear: to wait does not mean impatiently rushing ahead, nor does it mean sitting still and doing nothing. If we take that definition and apply it to our faith, to wait means that we ought to be looking to God for direction, and when the Lord directs, we ought to be ready to move as He directs.

Those who are truly wise will patiently wait for God’s direction and move in obedience. When you wait on God and move as He directs you to move, then your blessing will come for certain. However, when you choose to be wise in your own eyes and move as you direct yourself, you should never think you will partake in God’s blessings.

Let us follow God’s direction so that those crooked paths will be made straight. Let us follow God’s direction so that we can end all of the stress and worry about what tomorrow may bring. Yes, let us follow God’s direction so that we may have peace of spirit and mind.
