Matthew 7:24-29 – The Strong Foundation

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

If you’re going to endure this journey through life, you will need a strong foundation.

Today’s daily devotional: Matthew 7:24-29

Are you built up on a strong foundation? To be clear, when I ask that question, I am speaking of you, the person, rather than just your physical body. In your inner person, your soul, lies your true character, with all of your thoughts and intentions. Your soul is the engine to your being and so long as your soul is functioning well, you will live well.

Guess what? Satan knows how important your soul is, and that is what he attacks. Let’s take Job’s story, for example. Satan struck all that Job possessed, while at the same time, striking Job’s family, those who were closest to him. Such an attack was external to Job, yet it was an attack meant to cause spiritual damage. After seeing his external attack fail, Satan attacked Job personally by striking his body, which, again, was done to cause spiritual damage.

As Satan attacked Job, he attacks us. The devil is relentless in his attacks, as his desire is to weigh you down spiritually until you finally break. The devil’s relentless attacks will topple those whose foundation is spiritually weak, having been built up on worldly desires and doctrines. Consider that Satan tempted Jesus with the world, and then consider how many of us hand over our soul to gain the riches of the world.

Yet, Jesus said that those who hear His teachings and do them will withstand Satan’s relentless attacks. The word of God is strength to our being, and those who live by His word shall prevail. As Jesus taught, those who abide by His word will know the truth, and it will make them free (John 8:31-32).
