27 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. – Matthew 26:27-28 NKJV

Maybe you’ve watched a TV show or movie where two people have made an “blood oath” – an agreement made in blood. When this happens in the movies or TV, we know that the parties are being very serious about their oath – their promise – and not breaking it. So, if we can understand the seriousness of when this is done in movies or tv, why can’t we understand the seriousness of the promise that the Lord has made with us?
What is the promise that God has made with us? God promised that whoever believes in His only begotten Son will not perish but will have everlasting life. To show hos serious He was/is about that promise, He had His son put on a cross to shed blood! Yes, God gave the world His only begotten Son to become our sacrifice – our propitiation – to atone for our sins.
So, the promise of eternal life was made on the blood of Christ – a blood oath has been made to us. God is serious about His promise. When Jesus sat down with the disciples for the feast of Passover for the last time, He wanted them to understand the significance of what He was about to do. God is not going to go back on the promise that He has made to all of us who have accepted His promise! Our salvation is signed and sealed in the blood of Jesus.
Understanding that Christ shed His blood shouldn’t sadden us, but rather, it should fill us with comfort and assurance. Yes, we have assurance knowing that God is serious about our salvation and that our salvation will never part from us.
