Carefully Obey God’s Voice

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

When God speaks, those who are of sincere faith ought to listen and obey God’s voice.

Today’s devotional reading: Deuteronomy 15:1-11

God’s instructions are clear – He is not the author of confusion. God has instructed that one ought to love Him with their whole heart, and in that love, we are to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Our love is to imitate God’s grace towards us.

In His grace, the Lord repeatedly shows us mercy and forgiveness for our disobedient actions. Though the Lord sits high and looks low, He does not move begrudingly towards us. In His approach, God gives to all liberally and without reproach (Jas. 1:5). To those who have little, God gives much. We ought to keep in mind that God with those who are of a contrite and humble spirit (Is. 57:15).

In our service to God and to those around us, we must move with the same spirit that God moves towards us. Our service is not a service to glorify ourselves as if we are better than God, but rather, we are to glorify God. So, every opportunity you have to do the good work of the Lord, move and do. Give when you can give, and do it without reproach. Uplift when you are able to uplift, and love always.

If one is confused about His instructions, they ought to consult God through prayer. God has also surrounded us with brothers and sisters in Christ who are wise in His way and can help. Let us keep in mind that sincere faith is a faith that should always move to help those who are hurting, suffering, and less fortunate. When we help the less fortunate, we will have helped Christ as well (Matt. 25:40).
