Exalting the Lord Above All Creation

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

He is the King, the Sovereign Ruler over all of creation. Who are we to Him?

Today’s devotional reading: Psalm 29:1-11

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The Lord repeatedly makes it clear that when He created, there was nobody there to help Him. Sure, the angels were present and rejoicing when He laid the foundations of this physical creation, but their role is to minister, not to create. God is the one who ordained and established, setting the ordinances for how this creation works.

We, mankind, in our limited intelligence, are just barely scratching the surface of understanding the ordinances of this creation. Once we think we know one thing, something changes that changes our lifelong theories. We look at the heavens and our place in it, and those who study them will even admit that our place amongst the stars are perfect.

Yet, many of us will look to the heavens and think that this existence is all random. Many wonder whether or not there is an architect behind creation. God told Job that He is the one who binds the cluster of the Pleiades. God told Job that He is the one who brings out the Big Dipper and guides the Great Bear with its cubs through the heavens (Job 38:31-33).

Who are we to ever challenge the God of creation? Who are we to challenge the one who changes the times and the seasons? Who are we to challenge the one who rules both the heavens and the earth? As David sang, we ought to all sing today, “Give unto the Lord glory and strength. Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name.”
