Help Comes from the Lord

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

When you know that your help comes from the Lord, what do you fear? What do you worry about? Why worry?

Today’s devotional reading: Psalm 121:1-8

What is our strength and power? There is absolutely no doubt about it, we are intelligent beings who are capable of some great feats. Scientists can study and understand the biology of nature and the body; they can even look to the stars and have an idea of what is going on in the heavens. Athletes can push their bodies to the limit, running fast, jumping really high, lifting heavy amounts, and doing things unimaginable.

Yet we have our limits. Our intelligence eventually falls short, and we eventually have to take guesses. Our bodies eventually begin to ache and grow tired, so we eventually have to take a break. At the end of the day, we are mortal, fragile beings, who are fallible. What this means is that all of us will eventually need help.

Who will you turn to in the day you need help? Some of us will turn to our family. Some of us will turn to our friends. It is certainly a blessing to have those around you who you can turn to in a moment of need. However, what happens when the issue goes beyond our ability?

Who do you turn to for greater help? My help comes from the Lord. God is more than able to help us in all of our needs, but especially those needs that goes beyond any of our capabilities. God is the sovereign ruler, which is to say that He is all-seeing, all-knowing, and all-powerful. Let us never forget the Almighty God who desires to help us in such a day.
