Humility and Reverence Required in God’s Presence – Ex. 29:38-46

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

When you enter God’s presence, do so with honor

Today’s devotional reading: Exodus 29:38-46

Is God not worthy of honor? When it came to Moses entering God’s presence in the tabernacle, he could not enter in any kind of manner. Aaron, nor his sons, could enter God’s presence in any kind of manner. Because they were entering God’s presence, they had to sanctify themselves as they, like everyone else, had their sins.

Tragically, in Leviticus 10:1-2, Aaron’s sons did not sanctify themselves before the Lord, offered up an offering to Him, and were consumed by fire. This is why I believe it is incredibly important for us to pray the Lord’s mercy be upon us because we are incredibly sinful. We don’t want sin to consume our soul, and we certainly don’t want the Lord to be set against us.

There is a reason why your grandparents and parents did their best to honor the Lord at all times. Those who came before us recognized all that the Lord had done for them! They knew they weren’t perfect, but they understood that God had chosen to be with them. They knew that without God being with them, they would not have made it. So, they’d always seek His mercy, and they would do their best to talk right and to walk upright.

Let’s be clear, though we are His children and He abides with us, that doesn’t mean we are perfect. No, you, more than anybody, must go to God and seek His grace and mercy because you have received His instructions, knowing right from wrong. Don’t grieve the Spirit by letting your sin remain and dwell within you.
