It’s Time to Add Faith to Your Religion
Reverend Leo H. McCrary II
If you talk the talk, then walk the walk

Today’s devotional reading: Romans 9:30-10:4
Stop playing church. When I was little, I used to hear my dad speak about people playing church. Back then, I couldn’t understand what he meant by that. You see, when I was little, my brother and I used to “play church”. I would be the preacher, and my brother would be the deacon and the choir. My dad never said we did anything wrong, in fact, he used to have a chuckle out of it.
Now that I’m older, I realized that my dad was happy that he could see his boys had a joy about church. There are many who have a great amount of zeal for going to church. They sit on several church committees. They are at the church nearly every day, handling church business. These are some of the proudest churchgoers there is!
It is good to go to be a churchgoer, but being a churchgoer won’t save you. Ask yourself today: Are you moving by what you believe in God? Are you moving in the grace and love that God has poured out on us in Christ? Are you moving in the way, or the manner, of Christ?
The Jews had a great amount of zeal for God and His law. Yet, they stumbled greatly, due to their self-righteousness and their rejection of Christ and the gospel. No matter their zeal – their religion – Paul warned they wouldn’t be saved without faith. This is not just Paul’s warning, it is Christ’s warning as well – those without faith won’t be saved (John 3:18).
The believer must examine their works and answer whether they speak of God or something else.
