New Birth and a New Life

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

Be set free from the chains of sin and walk in the newness of life.

Today’s devotional reading: John 3:1-8

When one comes to know the truth, they will be set free from sin (John 8:32). All of us are born through the flesh, and though birth is wonderful and beautiful, we are all born in and of sin. No matter how much we desire to do good, as Paul said, the flesh is weak, and we live under the guilt and burden of sin.

The weight of the guilt of sin is too much for the soul, and God does not desire for one to live in such a way. The weight of sin is why the only begotten Son was given. The living soul which God breathed into the nostrils of man was not meant to dwell in such a manner. No, the Lord made man to dwell as Him! When Adam and Eve dwelt in the garden, they did not have to labor for anything! They dwelt in comfort and in peace, and such peace saw their souls glowing in the beauty of glory.

The soul is as an unclean thing, a filthy rag that needs to be clean. Thankfully, God desires to wash and cleanse our souls by the Spirit to remove the stain of sin. Such a washing will transform our soul from being a filthy rag to having the shine of God’s glory and a new life.

So, believers should keep in mind that God has not washed us for us to jump into the mud again. We have been born again to be an example of God’s righteousness. Our rebirth ought to come with a change in how we conduct ourselves. No more do we represent what is unclean; we represent what has been washed clean by God.

So, let us walk in such newness, conducting ourselves with the grace that was shown to us in our washing.
