Now’s Not the Time to Be Asleep

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

Are you watching and praying today? Now is certainly the time where we must be diligent in our prayer life.

Today’s devotional reading: Mark 14:37-41

You are on a spiritual battlefield today. As Paul said, we aren’t wrestling against flesh and blood. We’re wrestling against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places (Eph. 6:12). Sin is our enemy, and it never rests. As soon as we lower our guard, sin is there ot tempt us, encouraging us to disobey and fall off the path of righteousness.

Jesus told us to watch and pray. The reason we are told to watch and pray is so that we don’t enter into temptation (Matt. 26:41). Temptation, when we are enticed, can lead and draw us away from the Lord. Once drawn away, we will be vulnerable to the attack of the wicked.

There is a great need for prayer today, where we should not only pray for ourselves, but we should also pray for others. Today’s climate is capable of turning the good heart into a heart that is cold and bitter. Prayer connects us to greater help – God’s help – which we must turn to at all times. Through prayer, through our diligence of faith, we will overcome the wicked.
