Resting Securely in Fellowship With God – Ex. 24:9-18

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

There is love, safety, and care in the presence of God.

Today’s devotional reading: Exodus 24:9-18

God has no desire to destroy you if you were to dwell in His presence. There is a misconception that if one were to enter God’s presence and look upon Him, they would perish. Yet, scripture repeatedly shows that this is not true.

God made mankind with the desire to dwell with, and not against, mankind. Moses, for example, was repeatedly in the God’s presence, like at the burning bush, and he did not perish. On Mount Sinai, Moses, Aaron, and seventy elders of Israel was in the presence of God’s glory. Scripture tells us that they saw a form of God, and they ate and drank in His presence. The Lord did not lay His hand on them, which is to say, they were in His presence and did not perish.

Though we may sin, God’s desire is still a desire to dwell with us. The Lord has not destroyed us just yet, and do you know why? Because His desire is still a desire to dwell with us.

God will dwell with those who love Him, turn from sin, and commit themselves to His way of righteousness. God will make a home in us and rest with us, and we in Him. Rather than our destruction, when God comes to dwell with us, He will take away our sin – it will perish. However, our souls will be washed and renewed, no longer living in turmoil but resting safely and securely in the peace of God.

Let us never be afraid to enter into God’s presence, and let us never be afraid for God to enter into our presence. Let us welcome the Lord in our daily lives.
