Satan’s “Power” Crumbles Under God’s Authority

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

Let us not be fooled, Satan has no power over the Almighty One.

Today’s devotional reading: Mark 3:22-27

We must not be mistaken, Satan is a powerful being who has tempted mankind from the very beginning. Satan is the cause of many souls being crushed and defeated. Yet, scripture makes it crystal clear that Satan is not Almighty; he is incredibly weak and defeatable. Yes, you can even defeat the devil, but to do so, you will need help from the Almighty one.

At every turn, the Bible shows us that Satan falls apart at the hands of God. You see, God is the Maker and Creator of all things. God made the angels, of whom Satan once walked with, but he rebelled against his Maker. Satan’s rebellion was thwarted, and he along with the angels who followed him, were cast from heaven (Is. 14:12-15; Ezek. 28:16; Luke 10:18; Rev. 12:7-9). Then God gave His only begotten Son who, again, revealed that Satan’s power is limited compared to the everlasting God.

We, again, must not be mistaken. Satan is not God’s other half – that is to say that he is not an equal match for God, as many like to portray. The story of Job reveals just how limited Satan’s power is, even when it comes to us, the faithful of God. Job was physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually weakened by the afflictions of Satan, and yet the devil still could not overcome him.

As it is said in Isaiah 40:28-31, God does not grow weary; He renews our strength so that we don’t faint. Don’t try to every stand against the devil alone, as he will defeat you. However, if you stand against with God on your side, he will crumble and fail at every turn (Jas. 4:7).
