Stay the Course of Sound Doctrine | Titus 2:1,11-12

1 But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine … 11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age – Titus 2:1,11-12 NKJV

Titus 2:1,11-12 NKJV

I am a doctrinal preacher. What I mean by that statement is that I focus heavily on teaching and preaching the sound doctrine of God. If your desire is to prosper and get rich in your bank account, I am not the guy to show you the way. As Peter said to the lame man, “silver and gold I do not have”, but what I do have and am able to give to you is the word of God.”

Many of us find ourselves trapped inside the box of worldly thinking and worldly living. We, sadly, abide according to the worldly idea of what it means to prosper and to be rich. So, we try to prosper within the game that the world plays, but sadly, the game is rigged so that none of us can win its game. Many of us are bending over backwards, losing our identity and our voice, following the world’s doctrine only to come up empty-handed.

Paul advised Titus not to live in the world’s box, following its doctrine. Paul encouraged Titus to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts. Paul encouraged Titus to live soberly, righteously, and godly in his present age. If Paul’s words were sound advice for Titus in his day, you better believe his words are sound advice for us today.

If we are to truly prosper, we must not live inside the world’s box, playing a game where there is no true prosperity for us. We must get out of that box to truly prosper, and the way out of that box is through the sound doctrine of the Lord. You must follow the way of Christ who overcame and is able to give you true prosperity.
