The Folly of Contending With the Almighty
Reverend Leo H. McCrary II
Do we know more than God? Are we His creators?

Today’s devotional reading: Joshua 2:8-11
God does not ask us to strive against Him, but rather, He desires that we move with Him. God’s thoughts towards us are not evil, but are of peace, a future, and a hope (Jer. 29:11). God desires to walk with us to remove all obstacles and hindrances. God desires to bless us and give us peace of heart.
We must not choose to block the blessings of joy that God will give us by striving against Him. Pharaoh brought pain and sorrow not only to himself, but to his people because he believed himself to be a god. King Saul was anointed to be king, but because of his pride and arrogance, he not only hurt himself, but he also hurt his own household along with all of those who were loyal to him.
It is vanity to contend with God – to move against Him. God is the Sovereign ruler of both heaven and earth. That is to say that all power is with Him. To Job, the Lord asked, “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth (Job 38:4)?” The Lord asked, “Shall the thing made say of him who made it, ‘He did not make me?'” God asked, “Shall the thign formed say of him who formed it, ‘He has no understanding (Is. 29:16)?'”
God is Almighty. The Lord not only made this creation that you and I are apart of, but He made us. The Lord knows everything, including ourselves, better than we do. It is foolish to contend with the Lord God Almighty! So, let us walk with Him, and receive the wonderful blessings that He desires to give us.
