The Promises of the Eternal King

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

Let us never equate the kings and emperors of man with the King of kings, and Lord of lords.

Today’s devotional reading: 2 Samuel 7:4-17

The kings of mankind are fragile, and even they understand this. Both history and the present show that kings and emperors often portray themselves in a grandiose manner, claiming to be greater than all! They seek to portray their greatness in the present, desiring to leave behind their mark to be remembered fondly, which shows they know how fragile (temporary) they are.

Thankfully, God’s chosen king isn’t so fragile. God is unchanging – He is the everlasting God (Is. 40:28; Mal. 3:6). So, for Himself, He has provided to mankind a king who is the same today as He was yesterday, and will be forevermore, who is none other than Christ, His only begotten Son. Therefore, through Christ, we have stability in His governance.

In the law of Christ, there is liberty – freedom from the oppression of sin (John 8:31-36). In Christ, there is rest (peace) for the soul (Matt. 11:28-30). Yes, the wicked may test you, but when you’re in the hands of Christ, nothing and nobody can open His hands to harm or hurt your soul (John 10:28-30).

Our eternal king will go before you, shielding, protecting, and making a way for you. With Him, you don’t have to worry about there being war, nor losing your life. With Christ, your every need will be met and you will dwell comfortably and in peace.
