The Reason Why Your Blessing Rests in Humility

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

Don’t let your pride and ego keep your from the gifts that come from above.

Today’s devotional reading: 1 Peter 5:5-7

Pride separates us from God. There is nothing wrong with believing that you can do anything that you put your mind to. In fact, one ought to live with that confidence, opposed to living in fear and doubt. Fear and doubt paralyzes us and keeps us from moving towards our blessing.

However, there is a line that one must not cross when it comes to pride. The devil was cast out of heaven because his pride led him to think he was better than God, and could do better than God. Can the clay say to the potter that shaped and made it that it knows better?

Sadly, many of us develop a mindset where we push out ahead of God for our blessing. Or, some of us live with the thought in our head that we don’t need God to bless us. Don’t let such pride block you from ever receiving a blessing from God. God will never bless those who refuse to seek Him.

  1. Our blessing rests in humility because it is humility that causes us to recognize our capabilities. Though we are certainly capable of many things, the gifts from above are beyond our abilities.
  2. Humility is what keeps us near to God. God’s blessings are always with Him. God’s blessings are never ahead of Him, which is why we must patiently trust in Him, in faith.
  3. Humility is what helps us to increase our patience, and therefore, receive of the Lord.

So, let us check our pride and ego. As Peter said, let us humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God – this is where your blessing lies.
