Keep a Watchful Eye for Lies and Deceptions
Reverend Leo H. McCrary II
Do not be fooled, do not be deceived just because someone invokes the name of God.

Today’s devotional reading: Matthew 7:15-23
The truth is a constant battleground in this world. To be clear, the truth that I speak of is not over politics, opinions, or science, but rather, it’s God’s truth. When it comes to God’s truth, you must be prudent about what you will heed.
There is power in the name of God, and sadly, the wicked know this. Remember, when Satan tempted Christ, he used the word of God! The wicked will use God’s name to justify their wickedness. In their efforts, they seek to mislead others to believe them because they say they’re working in God’s name.
In 1 John 4:1, John wrote that we must not believe every spirit but test the spirits to see whether they are of God or not, because many false prophets are in the world. John’s teaching comes from the teaching of Christ, who warned that wolves would come dressed in sheep’s clothing to scatter and destroy the flock. So, you must be able to discern whether one is being truthful when it comes to the Lord and His word.
To do so:
- Turn to the written word. You should always read the written word of God for yourself so that you may see whether or not one is being true to the sound doctrine.
- Seek wise counsel. Turn to wise counsel whom you can truly trust to be truthful to the word so that they may help to enlighten you.
- Turn to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the greatest help you will ever have. Cry out to Him and He will fulfill His role of guiding you into all truth, so that you can have full clarity and understanding of what is or what is not true.
