25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

James 1:25 NKJV

James was one who was adamant about being of and moving in sincere faith. There were many that liked to boast about their profession of faith, but James was one to say that profession is not enough; our faith should get up and move in order to produce the righteousness of God. James’ goal was for one not to simply be a hearer of the word only; there are many that will go hear a word and profess to believe in God but that would be the end of it.

You and I must be more than a hearer of the word and one that simply professes faith. As the saying goes, “actions speaks louder than words.” I’m in that James frame of mind where I am constantly urging us to move in faith and not simply be a hearer and one of professed belief. Does this mean that we need to get up and shout to the heavens about the Lord? Well, there are plenty of professed believers that do that. No, what I am calling for us to do is to lean more on the Lord and live in obedience to His word.

James said that when one looks into the perfect law of liberty (the law of grace, the divine truth) and continues in it, they will become a doer of the perfect law. As God’s children, we should be motivated to move in the love that has been shown to us by the Lord. James called on us to learn to bridle our tongue and to love and uplift those in need. When we can live in this manner, we are living to a higher calling which is a calling of the Lord.
