Always Supporting, the Foundation of Love | 1 Cor. 13:4,7
February 4, 2025
4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 7 [Love] bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
1 Corinthians 13:4,7 NKJV
Whenever I share this scripture which focuses on love, I always try to point out that Paul based his definition of love by referencing God. God is love, and as a child of God, it is His love that we should imitate. God showed the children of Israel that He was always with them when they wandered in the wilderness – the pillar of fire by night, and a cloud by day. Jesus promised to be with His followers always, even to the end of the age (Matt. 28:20).
God is always there to help and to support us; to uplift us in our time of need and bring us through every affliction. This is the love that we should imitate. To be very clear, this kind of love is the foundation of what your faith is supposed to be made up of. The question we have to answer is whether or not we are always doing our best to support one another.
Yes, we all show love and support in our very own way, but something is truly troubling me today. Many of us are starting to go absent from one another and that disturbs me. The reason why this disturb me is because there needs to be more togetherness in households, families, and communities today. I watch as those who are of wicked and evil minds always seem to band together. Yet, we who are supposed to be of loving minds, supporting each other, always seem to be slow to come together and support.
This must change! We need to come together, be patient with each other, and bear each other up. If we can’t bear each other up in times like these, when will we?
