But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.

2 Peter 1:5-7 NKJV

I often wonder when it comes to faith, how many of us are putting forth the effort of faith? You have been hearing me speak on this thought a lot recently and for good reason. There are many professed believers in the world that are proud to profess their faith in God. There are many professed believers that are proud to say they’re baptized believers.

What does it mean that you’re a born again believer but you choose to act in wickedness? What does your baptism mean if you despise others and are cruel to them? What it means is that you are betraying your professed faith. Peter tells us that faith requires effort! If all you have is your profession of being a child of God, but you have no effort, you have no faith.

Peter encouraged believers to add to their profession some actions of faith. Those who don’t add to their faith, Peter said, is forgetful that they are now clean of sin through Christ. So, I encourage you today, don’t move in a manner of shortsightedness and forgetful of Christ. You can do this by doing as Christ commanded – love! Love all people as you love yourself!
