Food For Thought

13 But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light …
15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Ephesians 5:13, 15-16 NKJV

Many who love to say, “I’m a witness” love to approach being a witness by lecturing others. I hate to tell you this, but nobody likes to be lectured to, even if you think this is what it means to be a witness. Lecturing and dictating (forcing) Christ onto others, quite frankly, is unhelpful and unhealthy. As a man who knew a thing or two about lecturing and being a witness, let’s listen to Paul’s words today.

You see, there are those who it does no good trying to lecture, especially when it comes to lecturing scripture and what’s right and wrong. Yes, some hearts immediately close when they are being lectured. We live in a day when many people either know scripture or know of scripture, and sadly, many have already made their choice. As a witness, you can’t force the way of Christ on anybody, especially those who are hardened in their choice.

So, how are we to be a witness in such a time like this? Paul would tell you to simply live. Paul said to walk circumspectly and not as fools. This means that you should simply live in obedience to the word, nothing more or less than this. As Christ loved and did good, you must love and do good, nothing more and nothing less. Believe it or not, you are just as good of a testimony as scripture as, sadly, many people need to see the example, rather than just read or hear words.

So, be a witness today by being an example of good rather than being what pushes others away from Christ.
