Food For Thought

13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct

1 Peter 1:13-15 NKJV

There is a manner that we have gotten away from striving to live in. The generations before us lived according to the word of God whether they knew it in great depths or not. They cried out to the Lord. They prayed to God. They believed in the Lord. For that, even in all of their struggles, they were blessed.

Today is a day where, as Peter said, we need to “gird up” our loins. In other words, we need to get ourselves ready so that we are always ready for what’s ahead. Peter said that we need to be sober, fully aware. He also said that our hope needs to rest fully upon God’s grace. Rather than giving in to the wickedness of this day, we must stand firm in our faith.

We are encouraged to be as obedient children. We are to be holy in our conduct as the Lord is holy. Let’s not confuse holiness with being snobbish, pious, and self-righteousness. God is love! He is wonderful! While we may be surrounded by those who mean-spirited, we should be the opposite! Don’t lose your Christlike manner – the joy of your salvation – for those who choose not to obtain it.13-
