Are You Wearing Your Discernment Lenses? | Prov. 7:21-23
September 10, 2024
21 With her enticing speech she caused him to yield, With her flattering lips she seduced him. 22 Immediately he went after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, Or as a fool to the correction of the stocks, 23 Till an arrow struck his liver. As a bird hastens to the snare, He did not know it would cost his life.
Proverbs 7:21-23 NKJV
There is a harlot in the world that looks beautiful, has flattering lips, and speaks enticing words – you must not follow her! The “she” that Solomon refers to in this proverb is about the crafty harlot you will know by her other name – sin. Sin is a temptress that seeks to seduce one to fall in love with its way. The problem here is that the way of sin moves in complete opposition to God.
Do not consent to the enticing of sin (Prov. 1:10). It is not OK to lie, cheat, nor is it OK to steal. It is not OK to conspire against others, covet what they have, and despise. It is not OK to get back at others because they moved against you. It is not OK to talk against others and call people outside of their name. Sin will have you thinking it’s OK to move in such a manner and that nothing will happen to you, but it is not OK.
There is no good in selfish ambition. There is no good in greed. There is no good in hatred. Do not be enticed into following in the way of sin because its way is death. Sin is an active worker in this world who is going out and deceiving many. The one that followed the harlot in the proverb was met with an arrow to the liver – a killing blow.
God’s children must always have their discernment lenses on for when sin is tempting us to act against God’s way. Should you act in such a way, always, always, pay the Lord a visit.
