Food For Thought

“Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

Matthew 7:6 NKJV

You will struggle, mightily, trying to find peace of mind when arguing with a fool. Something that some of us struggle with is giving up an argument. Some of us have to have the last word. Some of us want to make sure our point is understood no matter what. A rebuke is truly good when the one being rebuked actually receives it, heeds it, and moves to make corrections.

However, some have been rebuked for years, and your rebuke has now turned into an ongoing argument. Why are you wasting your time, your breath, and your energy on one who ignores your rebuke? In Proverbs 26:4, we’re told not to answer a fool according to his folly. Jesus explicitly said not to give what is holy (or good) to dogs nor give your pearls (riches) to swine. Dogs and pigs would just make a mess of whatever you give them rather than treat it with care.

Those who refuse to listen to or heed rebuke are showing you what they think about you – they don’t care! I understand wanting to be loved, to be understood, and to be accepted but at what cost? Do you really want to be loved by those who don’t care to hear you out? Do you really want to be loved by those who don’t care to understand you? Those who will never accept you aren’t worth your breath – they aren’t worth the energy.

The only thing you will ever find dealing with such people is a headache. If you want peace of mind, find those who will choose to listen to you, understand you, and accept you. You see, those are the ones who will stand by you and lift you up higher. Arguing with a fool will only cause the light in your soul to dim.
