1 Timothy 1:4-7 – Avoid All Foolishness
Reverend Leo H. McCrary II
You must not get caught up in that which will pull you away from the Lord.

Today’s devotional reading: 1 Timothy 1:4-7
Distraction is the work of the devil. The goal of the faithful believer ought to be the kingdom. With that goal in mind, we ought to do everything we can to ensure that Christ is the head of our lives. Jesus taught that one ought to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, yet it often feels that the kingdom of God is the last thing on our minds (Matt. 6:33).
So many of us today are caught up in having to pay bills and put food on the table, while also caring for our health and the health of other loved ones, which is certainly understandable. Yet, I want to remind you that Christ taught that we ought not to worry about those things, as the Lord knows we have need of such things and He will take care of us. Do you trust the Lord to meet your every need?
Many of us say that we trust the Lord to meet our every need, but we often move in a manner that goes beyond our needs, and this is where the devil loves to enter the picture. For example, many are now consumed with gaining more and more riches so that they may live in luxury. There is a growing debate today over truth, as many dispute God and His word. There is even a growing debate over who will and who will not inherit the kingdom.
Listen, we must not stray from the Lord by being consumed with earthly riches. We must not stray from the Lord for this truth or that truth. As Paul told Timothy, our focus ought to be solely on the Lord; we shouldn’t be carried away in worldliness and foolishness. The focus of godly living is simply this: love the Lord and love your neighbor as you love yourself.
There is nothing more that is needed in the life you live aside from the great commandment of love. So long as you walk in this commandment, you know that God will be well pleased with you.
