Be True to God’s Peace

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

The true believer must make sure that our idea of moving in peace aligns with God’s peace, and then move in it.

Today’s devotional reading: Titus 3:1-2

There is no fear, no unrest, and no animosity in peace. The true peace of the believer comes from Christ and dwells in our souls. In the peace that Christ gives, He stated that the heart ought not to be troubled nor afraid (John 14:27). With His peace, Jesus instructed one to be cheerful, though they will have tribulation (John 16:33).

We often think of moving in peace as one who doesn’t put up a fight. Yet, we are to wage the good warfare of faith. This means we have a calling to fulfill and we ought to set out to fulfill our calling moving boldly in the truth. When Jesus stood before authorities and councils, He did so with meekness, yet He never budged on the truth. When apostles like Paul stood before authorities, they did so in meekness, yet unafraid to speak truth.

Never did Jesus or the apostles wish evil upon those who rejected them. Never did they try to force their way onto others. They moved in gentleness and in grace, never attempting to stone those who may thought to, and even tried to, throw stones at them.

We must move with the same humility and peace, unafraid to speak truth, and never crossing the line to hurt or harm others. Let us always look to the example Christ set, follow it, and then let us always heed the Holy Spirit.
