Born a King and a Witness | John 18:37

Read This Passage: John 18:28-38

37 Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”

John 18:37 NKJV

Prior to His crucifixion, Jesus “stood trial” to mankind. First the religious leaders of the Jews “judged” Jesus and had predetermined Him to be a blasphemer and a demon. After their “judgment”, the religious leaders handed Jesus over to Pilate who actually had no interest in Him whatsoever. After briefly speaking to Jesus and listening to Jesus speak about His kingdom which is not of this world, Pilate asked the all important question, “are You a king then?” In response, Jesus gives a testimony of Himself and look at what He says!

Jesus said, “I am a king.” Then Jesus tells us, once again, the cause as to why He was born into the world. Jesus was manifested into the world to bear witness to the truth. Let’s be very clear about this truth: the truth that Jesus testified of in the world is a truth that is absolute – it is divine. God’s truth is not subjective – based on an opinion. God’s truth is not objective – based on research that is proven to be fact (until more research is done). No, Jesus came to this one for one true reason and that was to bear witness to the truth that saves.

Pilate sarcastically asked, while he walked away, “What is truth?” There are many skeptics of the one and absolute truth. There are many that move with a spirit of antichrist today that deny Christ came in the flesh (1 John 4:3). However, Jesus said that those who are attentive to His voice, are of the truth and as we know, the divine truth sets us free from the penalty of sin.
