Heeding God’s Call With Courageous Faith

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

Faith is living, breathing, moving, and even more, faith has great courage.

Today’s devotional reading: Genesis 12:1-5

As we’re told in Isaiah 55:8-9, God’s thoughts are not as ours, and His ways are higher than ours. There are going to be several times on your journey when you won’t understand God’s directions. Faith moves in complete trust of the Lord, even when we don’t understand His directions. Moving with such a level of faith may be met by these difficulties:

  1. Fear. We often fear what we can’t see. We’d prefer to see, or have an idea, of what is ahead before we move.
  2. Reluctance. We may ask questions, not understanding the Lord’s desires. While seeking understanding isn’t a terrible thing, there are times when our questioning leads to hesitation and a lack of trust.
  3. Doubt. Doubt is a paralyzing spirit that will keep us from moving. Faith that doesn’t move is dead faith.

Abraham sets a good example of faith that simply moves. Rather than listening to fear, hesitation, and doubt, just take a step of faith. Always keep in mind that God’s thoughts towards you are not evil. God’s thoughts towards your are of peace, a future, and hope.
