Did You Know Following Jesus is Costly | Luke 14:27-28
March 1, 2024
27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. 28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it
Luke 14:27-28 NKJV
There is a price you must be willing to pay to follow Jesus on the path to glory. I want to be clear that the price cannot be paid with an exchange of money. I do hope that you understand that you cannot buy your way into the kingdom of heaven. I don’t care how much money you put in the collection plate, that money won’t get you into heaven!
Before we go out and make an investment, Jesus said we stop and consider the cost. For example, you don’t go out and buy a car or house without consider how you will pay for it! Many people walked with Jesus but at the same time, many had no idea why they were following. Some followed for the miracles. Others because the rest of the crowd followed. Jesus said if you truly want to follow Him, you better stop and count the cost.
Following Jesus requires sacrifice. What is that you must sacrifice? You must sacrifice your obedience. You see, to follow someone means that you’re no longer at the lead. Many people are unable to pay this price because they aren’t willing to put their trust in the Lord. So, you have to consider, are you comfortable with the idea of letting God lead you. This is the price to pay to follow Jesus.
