Food For Thought

I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth— Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the Lord.

Psalm 40:1-3 NKJV

If you don’t know that the Lord will lift you up, David makes it very clear that God can and will lift you up. David was a man who had “gone through it” in the life that he lived. He was a warrior that eventually became king. Even before he became king, he was a man that was surrounded by people that hated him. King Saul despised David with every fiber in his bones and sought his life. God brought him through all of that.

As king, David we all know, committed a horrible sin from the lust of his evil passions. Yet, David could look back on it all and say, “Lord, you lifted me out of a horrible pit.” This psalm is even Messianic in that Christ was also lifted out of a horrible pit after giving His life for us. Sin brings us down, but again, God lifts us up!

As David said, the Lord has put a new song in our mouth. What is that song? It is a song of redemption. We were once buried in sin but the Lord reach out by His love and lifted us out of that grave. Today, we should sing about our redemption story. In Revelation 5:9-10, you can see a future day in God’s kingdom, where will sing the ol’ redemption story. So, if you didn’t know that God will lift you up, you better believe that He can and certainly will!
