How does that old saying go, don’t just talk about it but be about it. Well, let me tell you something, when it comes to the gospel, that saying also holds very true. You see, it is not enough just to say that you believe in God. It is also not enough to say that you love. Actions speak louder than words.

John was calling out those that love to profess their faith and love but never show their faith and love through their works. Many love to profess that they are a child of God, but the manner in which they move betrays their profession of faith. One who professes to be of faith but move with anger, hatred, and wrath stored within their hearts move in a manner that is not Christ-like. How did Christ move? Jesus moved out of love!

God is love, and those who love to proclaim that they are a child of God should be just as God. If you profess to be a child of God, then your profession must be shown in deed and in truth because your words aren’t enough. Let us labor from a pure heart and with sincerity. When you and I move in this manner, we please the Lord and we assure our hearts and our works for the day when we stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
