Don’t Save Your Worship for Only the Building | John 4:23
February 20, 2025
23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.
John 4:23 NKJV
The scripture that I am sharing with you today comes from a coversation that Jesus was having with a Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well. To me, this is one of the most important conversation recorded between mankind and the Lord. The reason why I say this is because she was speaking to Jesus about worshiping the Lord. Her Samaritan forefathers believed they were supposed to worship God in the mountains while the Jews believed that ‘true’ worship only happened in Jerusalem.
What say you? Do you think worship is only for a ‘church’ building? There are many people who, like the Samaritans and the Jews think this way and they are wrong. Jesus had to let the Samaritan woman know that God isn’t just in the mountains nor is He only in a temple. God is everywhere. When many of us come to ‘church’, we change our talk and we change our walk so that we can worship the Lord. We do this with the notion that we want to “come correct” in “worship service”.
The problem with this is that we’ve turned worship into a service. Jesus said that we are to worship in spirit and truth, not just in a place of worship. Every moment that we live should be in worship of the Lord. Do you understand what I mean by this? We shouldn’t be changing the way we act just because we entered a building. God dwells with us everywhere we go so, we should always carry ourselves in a manner of worshiping the Lord.
If only all of those who profess to be a child of God truly walked with Him as they do when they enter the church building. So, I encourage you today to start considering that your life – every breath you take – should be in worship of the Lord.
