Envy in Faith? Find Peace in Your Walk of Faith | John 21:21-22
January 9, 2025
21 Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?” 22 Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.”
John 21:21-22 NKJV
In this passage of scripture, Jesus had just finished telling Peter to feed His sheep and what was in store for him. Then Peter, looked at John and asked a question that a child of God should never ask. Peter wanted to know what John would do and what would become of him. I don’t believe Peter was asking from a place of jealousy nor was he asking from a place of envy. However, many of us do have a habit of seeing what God has done for others and asking, ‘why them and not us?’
Does it even sound right to ask about what God chooses to do for others in comparison to what He does for you? First and foremost, God will move and do as He chooses. Again, God is the potter at the wheel and not any of us. Secondly, all of us have our very own life to live – we’re all on our own personal journey. On your journey, you may experience some things I don’t and likewise I will experience some things that you wont’ Therefore, we won’t all have need of the same tools to make our journey.
Too many of us are not only taking our eyes off what God has given us, but we’re taking our eyes off our journey just to envy what others have received. So, such envy becomes disruptive and unhealthy for us on our journey. When we begin to question what God has done for others, I imagine that God asks us, “What is that to you? Focus on your journey and follow Me!”
When we focus on our journey and follow the Lord, we can enjoy His fruits and therefore enjoy the journey a lot more. So, I say to you today, keep your eyes on the road and stay in your own lane! I say to you, don’t worry about what other folks are doing, focus on yourself and the Lord. Do that and blessings will surely come your way!
