Fighting With a Good Conscience | 1 Timothy 1:18-19
Read This Passage: 1 Tim. 1:14-1918 This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, 19 having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck
1 Timothy 1:18-19 NKJV
Paul tells to Timothy to “wage the good warfare.” Well, what is the good warfare? After all, what is “good” is subjective, right? However, Paul makes it clear later in this letter to Timothy that good warfare is fighting the fight of faith (1 Tim. 6:12). So that there is no confusion about this, let’s understand how to wage the good warfare in fighting the fight of faith.
In order to wage the good warfare, Paul encourages Timothy to go with a “good conscience”. When we speak of the conscience, we move into the territory of what lies within the heart. What lies within the heart of true believers should be the word of God. From the word of God lying within our hearts, nothing but what is holy and righteous should spring forth. What this means is that nothing corrupt – word or deed – should come from anybody who says that they are fighting the good fight of faith!
Those with a good conscience should have good spiritual values; when we observe what is wrong, we shouldn’t just point that out, we should offer correction. You see, it is not enough to say that someone has sinned. When you fight the fight of faith you uplift those you love, those that you may not even like, those that hate you, and even the sinner as well. Are you fighting the good fight of faith? Are you fighting with a good conscience?
