God Is Above All Titles and Positions

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

We must not follow in the way of Satan as his sin should serve as a warning to becoming prideful.

Today’s devotional reading: Deut. 17:14-20

Don’t let your title or your position go to your head. Scripture often shows how “power” often causes men to become prideful. Take, for example, the Pharaoh of Moses’ day who asked him, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey His voice to let Israel go (Ex. 5:2)?” Such pride is what the proverb warns goes before destruction, and such a haughty spirit before a fall (Prov. 16:18).

What can we, mankind, do without the Lord, aside from live sinfully? We live in need of God with every breath that we take! Without God, we would have no life, no breath in us. Without God, there would be no existence.

We must remember that the Lord is Sovereign! God is the Lord of lords and the King of kings. As Daniel said, the Lord is the one who changes the times and the seasons, and He removes and raises up kings (Dan. 2:21). God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent!

Therefore, regardless of your title or your position, look to the Lord! I encourage you to humble yourself and let the Lord lead and direct your steps. When you acknowledge the Lord, Proverbs 3:6 tells us that He will direct your path, and when the Lord directs your path, He directs you to His blessing, not a blessing that is of the world. When you humble yourself and lean on God’s understanding, Proverbs 3:8 tells us that it will be health to our flesh and strength to our bones.
